Metadata Formats

Most organisations hold metadata in their systems in a local format. This metadata will need to be exported from your system and made available to CARARE for Europeana in a standard format. There are several possible possible ways of doing this. You can:

  • Establishing an XML format for your metadata in its native format or in a standard metadata scheme (such as Dublin Core, CARARE, LIDO or EDM) and producing an export of your metadata records.
  • Establishing an OAI-PMH repository which makes metadata available in a standardised format for harvesting by CARARE using either its MINT or Repox service.

Your metadata may be uploaded or harvested by CARARE's MINT service for mapping to one of the standard intermediary schemas (CARARE or EDM).

Metadata that is in either CARARE or EDM may be uploaded or harvested by CARARE's Repox aggregator service for validation, enrichment and provision to Europeana.

We provide metadata crosswalks from the standard intermediary schemas (CARARE, LIDO, EDM, Omeka-XML) to EDM.
