Bios

Henk Alkemade is CARARE's Deputy Operations Manager. Henk graduated in Physical Geography, but worked in IT (development, management) until 2016. From 2016 to 2022 Henk was senior employee of the department of Historical Landscapes at the Dutch National Heritage Agency. He is active at and across the boundaries of IT and Archaeology, (pre-)historic Landscapes and built Monuments at the Dutch National Heritage Agency. Serving as a linking pin between these knowledge departments and IT and participating in national and international projects, concerned with digital heritage. Henk has a special interest in the role of cultural heritage and cultural historic knowledge in addressing present problems like soil subsidence, sea level rise, water management etc. Henk is former chair and now a member of the steering group of the Europeana TECH community.

Steven Claeyssens is a Curator of Digital Collections at the National Library of the Netherlands (ΚΒ). Steven holds an MA in Philology from Ghent University and an MA in Book and Publishing Studies from Leiden University. He wrote a PhD on publishing in the Netherlands during the first half of the 20th century. He is still interested in text, philology and publishing, but in recent years his focus has shifted to all things digital: Digital Humanities, digital publishing, digital source critique and collections as data. Today, Steven is the curator of the collections of digital books, periodicals and newspapers, both digitised and born digital at KB. Steven is also the current chair of the steering group of the Europeana Research community. He chairs the combined Europeana Research/Europeana TECH working group "Datasheets for cultural heritage datasets".

Catherine Anne Cassidy is the Digital Skills Officer at CARARE. Catherine developed sector training in the 4CH project and is continuing to support CARARE in its roles inTech4Heritage, 5DCulture and European data space for cultural heritage (Europeana). She holds a PhD in Computer Science and a MLitt in Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of St Andrews, where she also is part of the research group Open Virtual Worlds investigating digital heritage engagement and evaluating impact. Her area of research explores strategies for democratised preservation and promotion of threatened heritage using 3D digitisation through community engagement.
